A Wal-Mart Surprise

Usually I'm not a fan of the Constant Friendship Wal-Mart. Too difficult to park, too crowded, too dirty. But I must say, my trip today wasn't terrible. Which is a vast improvement over many of my visits.
In case you haven't stopped by in the last month, they've completely remodeled the clothing sections. They've widened the aisles, posted better signage and added more clothing options. It's also much cleaner.
The staff is still working on the food and pharmacy section, which made it too difficult to really see what they were adding. But I did manage to note a larger refrigerated section with more frozen/refrigerated foods. Also added were at least several more aisles of dried and canned goods.
And just in time for Christmas, they've enlarged the toy section, which is now in the back of the store. I was always surprised at how small the previous toy selection was, so they seem to have remedied this.
It will still take more to get me away from Target, but it's encouraging that they're trying to improve.

Yea, it is nice, much cheaper and brighter!! They are making the stores universal... meaning that when you walk into any store it's the same except for "super" walmarts.

Here's a letter I'm sending to the Aegis for next week's issue. I hope readers of this blog will find a way to contribute.

Dear Editors,

Development may be coming to Fallston, Forest Hill and Jarrettsville, but it's already here in Abingdon. A new strip
of stores is going up in Constant Friendship, right across the street from the land being excavated behind Target. We didn't
ask for new construction - no one I've talked to even knows what is being built. Meanwhile there are two empty stores available less than a quarter mile away, three more in Emmorton Village, and dozens of available spaces in downtown Bel Air.

Citizens should not have to be detectives to get answers when it comes to who is building what in their neighborhood and why.
Our leaders are not acting as crusaders for the people they represent. Our County Councilperson took tens of thousands in campaign contributions from development corporations during the last campaign - how can we expect her to stand up to developers who are knocking down the forests to sell even more plastic junk?

We need representation on the local level that is willing to get answers and stand up for Abingdon. Please call the Harford County government at 410-638-3355 and volunteer to serve on the Abingdon/Riverside/Emmorton Community Council.
